393 years ago – In 1630, the Indians Introduced the Pilgrims to Popcorn.

144 years ago – In 1879, Frank Winfield Woolworth opened a five-and-dime store in Utica, New York.  Does the name “Woolworth” mean anything to today’s hooligans?  No?  Sad.

43 years ago – In 1980, the Miracle on Ice happened when the United States FINALLY beat the Soviet Union in hockey . . . winning by a score of four to three in the 13th Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.

40 years ago – In 1983, Styx released their 11th album “Kilroy Was Here”, featuring Mr. Roboto and Don’t Let It End.

37 years ago – In 1986, D.L. Hughley married his wife LaDonna.  Today is their 37th Anniversary.

36 years ago – In 1987, Andy Warhol died of a heart attack at age 58, after gall bladder surgery.

34 years ago – In 1989, at the 31st Grammy Awards, Tracy Chapman won Best New Artist.  “Don’t Worry Be Happy”, by Bobby McFerrin, won Best Song and Best Record

Metalheads everywhere FLIPPED when the first “Hard Rock / Heavy Metal” Grammy ever was awarded to Jethro Tull over acts that included Metallica.

30 years ago – In 1993, Radiohead released their debut album, “Pablo Honey”, featuring their signature song Creep.

26 years ago – In 1997, scientists in Scotland announced they had succeeded in Cloning an Adult Mammal, producing a lamb named “Dolly”.

26 years ago – In 1997, Jennifer Lopez married Latino waiter named Ojani Noa, who’d proposed to her in 1996 at a cast party for the movie “Selena”.  She divorced him in 1998.

21 years ago – In 2002, legendary Warner Brothers animator Chuck Jones died at the age of 89.  He created the RoadrunnerWile E. CoyoteMarvin the Martian, and Pepe Le Pew . . . and produced and directed tons of classic Looney Tunes cartoons.

14 years ago – In 2009, “Slumdog Millionaire” won the Best Picture Oscar, Sean Penn won Best Actor for “Milk”Kate Winslet won Best Actress for “The Reader”, and Heath Ledger was Best Supporting Actor for “The Dark Knight”.

Nine years ago – In 2014, El Chapo was captured in Mexico.
