HIGHLIGHTS:  A study found the average movie theater seat has 1,864 colonies of bacteria, and the cup holders are even worse.  But the good news is most of that bacteria is harmless.

FULL STORY:  Movie producers are always trying to put more butts in seats . . . and not surprisingly, those butts aren’t always clean.

A new study looked at the top bacteria hot-spots in movie theaters and found the average seat has 1,864 colonies of bacteria.  That’s 14 times more than the average toilet seat.  (Toilet seats are actually pretty clean.)

One spot was even more disgusting than the seat itself.  The CUP HOLDERS had an average of 2,396 colonies of bacteria, or 18 times more than a toilet seat.

The good news is most of the bacteria they found was pretty harmless, and not the kind that makes a lot of people sick.

And even though those numbers may seem high, your average kitchen sponge is actually grosser than that.
